Community Meals
(Church members and volunteers pose for a photo at Community Meals)
Our church is part of Neighbors United. The main task of this organization is to provide a weekly meal on Saturdays, 11am, at First Baptist Church. In addition to regularly volunteering at this meal, three or four times a year our church cooks the meal for about 250 neighbors living in our neighborhood. For more information about this important ministry, contact the minister.

Neighborhood Ministry People often come to our church needing immediate short-term assistance: groceries, gas, and transportation needs. Our Neighborhood Ministry team responds to these needs by purchasing gift cards and assisting those who come to our door by referring them to agencies who can help them with a hand up, not a hand-out. In these continued hard economic times, this ministry is vital to our neighborhood. Omaha Together One Community (OTOC)
First Unitarian participates in community organizing through OTOC. OTOC is a coalition of churches across Omaha modeled after the Industrial Area Foundation style of community organizing. This group democratically elects three advocacy issues to work with city officials to help create Omaha a welcoming place for all. Members on this team attend OTOC meetings and advocate our Unitarian Universalist faith in action. For more information on OTOC, visit www.otoc.org

Standing On The Side of Love
Standing On The Side of Love is a national campaign started by Unitarian Universalists for marriage equality. Since its inception in 2009, the movement has spread across many denominations and issues. This team uses the message of love to campaign for many issues inside and outside our church. Green Sanctuary
Our Statement of Purpose and Commitment: We are each committed to learning ways in which we might live more sustainable lives that will help reduce the threat of global warming. We will strive to lead by example and not by words alone. We believe that a commitment to change must come from within. We believe that each person at First Unitarian must take responsibility for his or her own actions within our church and the greater community. We believe that a “greener than thou” attitude has no place in a [Environmental Stewardship] program, inasmuch as we are each in the process of learning and growing. We believe the role of the Green Sanctuary Committee is to build upon our church community’s awareness and knowledge of environmental issues. To read a letter from our Green Sanctuary Team Leader to Secretary of State Clinton about the pipeline, click here.We will encourage and support both individual and collective action. We will encourage and facilitate networking among different committees in our church. We will remain open to new ideas and to new members. (To read the full statement, please go here.
