Sunday Worship Services

10:30 a.m. Summer Services through August 22

We Return to 9:30 & 11:15 a.m. Services on August 29

First Unitarian Church of Omaha is located at 3114 Harney Street.  Summer Sunday Services begin at 10:30 a.m.  Sunday Services are followed by our traditional coffee hour in the church social hall known as the Common Room. Child care is provided in the nursery for infants and pre-school children.  Dress comfortably. Free parking is available in the lot west of the Church.

August 1 - 10:30 a.m. - Matt Mason - Modern Poet, Old Testament

Published poet and writing instructor Matt Mason will read poems inspired by a modern-day look at some of the Old Testament's books and the confusion, beauty, and oddness he sees.

Music: Donovan Johnson with the Early Morning Risers

August 8 - 10:30 a.m. - Laura Shennum - Nothing is Settled. Everything Matters

What are the resources, we as Unitarian Universalists, use to let go of our worries and burdens? How does letting go of those burdens allow us to be present in our life to our self and others? I invite you to come and explore this topic with me to see ways we can all grow to be more present in our daily lives.

Music: Donovan Johnson with the Early Morning Risers

August 15 - 10:30 a.m. - Rev. Ron Knapp - Always Something Differing, Always Somewhat Agreeing

The sermon will deal with one of the most important documents in American Unitarian history and its implications for UUs today. That document, “Things Commonly Agreed Among Us,” was adopted in 1887 at the Western Unitarian Conference annual meeting.

Music: Donovan Johnson with the Early Morning Risers

August 22 - 10:30 a.m. - Return from Summer - An Intergenerational Ingathering Service

Please bring water, a stone, or a leaf symbolizing something or someplace from your summer.

Music: Donovan Johnson with the Early Morning Risers

August 29 - Return to two services - 9:30 & 11:15 a.m. - Rev. Kate Rohde - Roots and Branches: The Interconnected Web, Nature Mystics from Thoreau to the neo-Pagans.

In our series about different strands of UU theology, the sort of mystic naturalism that started with the Transcendentalists, especially Emerson and Thoreau, is a theological thread that most of us share whether we are UU Christians, Theists, Religious Humanists, or Pagans: a strong sense of the wonder of this world.

Music: 9:30 a.m.: Donovan Johnson with the Early Morning Risers; 11:15 a.m.: Choir under the direction of Bob McMeen

Sunday Sharing to Help Others

Share the Plate: We set aside one-half of the undesignated cash contributions in our Sunday offering plate to support a worthy cause. This month's share the plate recipient is the ACLU. At July 18’s Sunday service we heard Tristan Bonn, from the ACLU, discuss a plan to educate the community about their rights when it comes to police stops. We are sharing our plate
with that program this month. Everyone should know his or her rights. Help the ACLU make this a reality.

Change for Change: The coins that our members and friends contribute to the Sunday offering plate and at other times are turned over to the children of the church. They determine how to use these funds to help others.
