Sanctuary on Sunday

Sunday Worship Services
Beginning May 31 and continuing through
the summer,
we offer a single service at 10:30 a.m.

(Our regular two-service schedule resumes August 30)

First Unitarian Church of Omaha is located at 3114 Harney Street.  Sunday Services begin at 10:30 a.m. throughout the summer. All kindergarten through 5th grade children go to directly to Sunday School during the summer instead of beginning the morning in the sanctuary with their families. Sunday Services are followed by our traditional coffee hour in the church social hall known as the Common Room. Child care is provided in the nursery for infants and pre-school children.  Dress comfortably. Free parking is available in the lot west of the Church.

July 19 - The Story of Standing Bear

Joe Starita -- author, Pulitzer Prize nominee, and professor of Journalism at UNL – shares his work on Standing Bear: "In the spring of 1879, en route to bury his only son, a chief unwittingly ended up in the cross-hairs of an unfolding landmark legal case. The story of Standing Bear explores fundamental issues of citizenship, constitutional protection, cultural identity and the nature of democracy - issues that still resonate loudly in 21st Century America.”

Music: John J. Bennett - organ

July 26 - Portraits of Care

Church member Dr. Bill Lydiatt will share his experience with the Portraits of Care project, the culmination of a two-yearresearch project at UNMC where medicine met art. Portraits by artist Mark Gilbert will be available for viewing. For more detailed information on the project, visit www.markgilbert.co.uk and click on UNMC Portraiture Project 2006-2008.

Music: Donna Zebolsky - piano

Sunday Sharing to Help Others

Share the Plate: We set aside one-half of the undesignated cash contributions in our Sunday offering plate to support a worthy cause. In July our Share the Plate contributions will go to CureSearch. The CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation is dedicated to raising private funds for childhood cancer research for the Children's Oncology Group, the world's largest cooperative cancer research organization.

Change for Change: The coins that our members and friends contribute to the Sunday offering plate and at other times is turned over to the children of the church. They determine how to use these funds to help others.
