Share the Plate NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, supports and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raising awareness and building a community of hope for all of those in need. NAMI Nebraska is active in Omaha and across our state in making sure that our community members affected by mental illness have the support that they need. The 2012 NAMI Walk will be held on June 9, 2012 at Turner Park at Midtown Crossing. In addition to supporting NAMI Nebraska with our Share-the-Plate contributions, we also encourage everyone to walk with the First Unitarian Team in this year's walk. For more information, please contact the NAMI Walk co-captains Terri Lynn Brewer or Ben Wallace.

In 1981, Community Alliance Mental
Health Rehabilitation Center was founded by concerned Omaha parents who
believed their adult children with mental illness deserved a life beyond an
institution. Their mission is to help individuals with mental illness achieve
their unique potential, and to live, work, learn and contribute in a community
of mutual support. To learn more, visit their website: www.community-alliance.org. |

The Rev. Mark Kiyimba spoke at our church on August
20 and 21 about the Unitarian-sponsored orphanage and school in Uganda filled
with children who have had their parents die from AIDS. In September, our
share-the-plate beneficiary is the effort in Uganda to help these orphans and
students. Please be generous. From the August 20 speaking event and August 21
Sunday service, we have collected $620 towards this cause. Thank you!
