One of the most successful activities at my first church, All Souls in Shreveport, Louisiana, was the monthly Building & Grounds Work Day. Members would work together on small projects, such as deep cleaning floors, painting parking lot lines, oiling pews, and painting. It wasn't always glamorous, but we did it together! Aside from our Sunday morning service, it was regularly are most well-attended event!

I'd like to bring this tradition to First Unitarian. I think this was a great source of fellowship AND productivity for All Souls - and it can be here too!
This summer, Rev. Shari has supported my efforts in heading up three Building & Grounds Work Days - Saturdays, June 21, July 19, and August 23. The hope is a volunteer will step up after this to takeover the event.
What do we do? It varies each time, but projects on the radar right now are cleaning windows (interior), helping haul trash and organize items in the attic and our new classroom, a deep clean of bathrooms, and potentially helping the Garden Team mulch the courtyard area. Have you noticed something you'd like to work on? It's a great time to do it - you might even have some help! Need special supplies, contact me ahead of time, so we can make sure we have everything on hand!
Who can help? Anyone! This was always an all-ages event at my home church - kids can help sweep, dust, pull weeds, etc. We'll find something! Sometimes it's as easy as testing markers and pens! All abilities! We've got projects you can sit for, no problem.
When is this happening? This is a great opportunity for church members and friends to address some odds and ends that often get overlooked. I sincerely hope you'll consider joining me for Building & Grounds Work Days on Saturdays, June 21, July 19, and August 23 from 9 am to 1 pm.
