As a new choir season approaches, we're excited to welcome both returning and new singers to our first rehearsal on September 9.
This year is particularly meaningful for me. September marks my 10th season leading the choir. I joined the organization as Choir Director in September 2016, in January 2025 I was honored to step into the role of Music Director. Looking back over ten years, one thing stands out above all else: music brings people together in remarkable ways.
Why join a choir?
People join a choir for many different reasons. Some love to sing. Some are looking for a creative outlet. Others are seeking connection and community. What many discover is that choir offers all those things and more.
Singing has been shown to reduce stress, elevate mood and improve overall well-being. Learning music keeps our minds active and engaged, challenging us to learn new skills, remember details, and continue growing. And perhaps most importantly, choir creates friendships. In a world where genuine connection can be hard to find, gathering each week to create something beautiful together can be deeply rewarding.
Every voice in the choir plays an important role. Sopranos bring brilliance and lift. Altos provide warmth and richness. Tenors add energy and color. Basses create depth and foundation. Each section contributes something essential, and the music only comes fully alive when all the voices come together.
This season we're also celebrating the diversity of our choir with new stoles in vibrant solid colors. Just as every color brings its own beauty, every singer brings unique experiences, perspectives, and talents that strengthen our community.
What to expect on September 9th
Never sung in a choir before? Haven't sung since high school? Not sure if it's right for you?
Think of September 9 as a "try before you buy" opportunity. Come sing with us. Meet the group. Experience a rehearsal. Ask questions. There is no pressure and no obligation.
Just a chance to discover whether choir might become one of the highlights of your week.
We work hard. We laugh often. We support one another. And together, we make music that is greater than the sum of its parts.
As I begin my tenth season with this wonderful choir, I can't wait to welcome new voices into our musical family.
