Improved Safety Measures - A Note from Your MTC

Your Ministry Team Council meets at least once per month to discuss and make decisions on matters pertaining to the First’s ministries and operations. MTC members are Jack Round, Taylor Eman, Diana Byrd, and Rev. Shari Woodbury. Membership and Administrative Manager Melissa Gibson and Church Treasurer Walt Jesteadt also regularly attend.
Within the area of safety, we have several upcoming changes we want to share so you can be aware and informed.
NEW DOOR CODE
First, a new keypad door lock was installed on the courtyard entrance door. For security purposes, the code will be changed periodically. The upcoming change will occur on or about January 1.  Out of concern for members, staff, and guests, we must be sure we know who has the door code. If you use the church regularly and need the door code to enter, we ask that you email Melissa at admin@firstuuomaha.org and inform her of the reasons you need to have an entry code. Â
Please be patient with us as we make this transition. When you receive the door code, we ask that you do NOT share it with anyone else - even your spouse, child, or best friend. They should submit their own request. We need each person who receives the code to be accounted for in the church office. Strict security will prevent us from needing to change the code more often.
DOOR LOCKED DURING SUNDAY SERVICE
Another note regarding the courtyard door: The courtyard door will be locked approximately 15 minutes after service begins on Sundays for the safety and security of the children, youth, and volunteers in the RE wing. During other events, please do not leave the door unattended and unlocked for extended periods.Â
KITCHEN CHINA
Another upcoming change is that we will be removing the old china from the kitchen. We’ve learned that these dishes have been identified as having lead glaze; the lead can leach into food. We care very much about the health and safety of our congregation and guests and have made the decision to stop using these items. In the short term, we will use disposable dishes while we budget for an appropriate replacement.
If you have any questions or concerns about this, please email MTC@firstuuomaha.org.
